I’ve been taking it easy in January due to two things. First, I injured my ankle and could barely walk for a week. I’m mobile again but recovery is slower than I’d hoped. I expect to be back to normal by the end of the month. You’d think I’d get a lot of writing done in that time, but the truth is I haven’t been able to concentrate. I’m getting back to normal, both physically and with my writing schedule. Second, it’s a slow month for sales. There aren’t a lot of events going on between covid and just the time of year. Honestly, it’s been a nice break that I needed.
One thing I’m excited about is an even coming up in February. I’ll be speaking on a panel titled So You Want to Get Published at the 2022 Writers Retreat. This is a brand-new event that I am lucky to be a part of. If you’re interested in writing and free at the end of February come check it out!
There’s a formula for self-published authors. It goes like this. Write to market, put books out quick, and make them just good enough to sell lots of copies. Lots of mundane work pushed out fast to make a buck. If I adopted this model, I could make a lot of money at this. The issue I have is that this is art for me. It’s an endeavor I’ve undertaken to be personally fulfilling and hopefully provide stories that you, the reader, finds enjoyable and engaging. And so, I’ve been doing a lot of soul searching this month. I’m close to finishing the final book in The Keeper Chronicles and I’ve been trying to decide what to write next and how I am going to move this business forward.
After a lot of thought I’ve come to a decision. I’m going to write the best books I can, not just “good enough”. It’s going to take longer to put them out but that’s okay. If I don’t end up making a million bucks and become famous, that’s okay too. If you’re reading this, it’s because you appreciate what I’m doing and I’m going to keep right on doing it!
